Dermal fillers offer a way for people to restore lost facial volume, enhance their features, or smooth away lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers can contain several different materials, but Juvederm® and its hyaluronic acid formulations have become among the most popular.
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers add volume to facial features. They can replace volume lost from areas like the cheeks, soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and plump areas like the lips. Dermatologists and other aesthetic providers have a choice of several filler types, but hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm® are the most popular type.
What is Juvederm®?
The Juvederm® family of fillers includes several products, all containing different formulations of hyaluronic acid. This molecule, already common in the skin, can take on a thick and sturdy or thin and flexible formula depending on the links between them.
Juvederm® Ultra XC
Using a formula ideally suited for the lips and lines around the mouth, Juvederm® Ultra XC works especially well for minimizing the appearance of smoker’s lines or other vertical lines around the mouth.
Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC
Used for adding volume to the facial features, Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC works well for mid-face areas, including the cheeks and temples. It replaces or enhances volume.
Juvederm® Voluma
With a particular emphasis on the cheek area, Juvederm® Voluma has a sturdy formula suitable for supporting challenging areas of the mid-face.
Juvederm® Vollure
Adding volume to the area between the mouth and nose, Juvederm® Vollure fills and smooths away nasolabial folds, the lines that connect the edges of the nose and mouth.
Juvederm® Volbella
Designed as a lip filler, Juvederm® Volbella can also be used on lines and wrinkles around the mouth without restricting facial motions. Lip fillers must have special flexibility and smoothness to let the lips move freely.
Is Juvederm® Safe?
Because hyaluronic acid appears naturally in the skin, the body does not react to hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm®. This type of filler remains the most popular due to its variety of uses and its non-reactive ingredient. Unlike most fillers, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be removed. If you do not like your results, your provider can inject an enzyme that takes apart the hyaluronic acid and eliminates the filler.
How Long Will Juvederm® Last?
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like Juvederm® can last anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the formulation and area of the face. Areas like the lips, which move constantly, will cause the filler to break down more quickly, while fillers in areas like the cheeks can last much longer.
If you have considered dermal fillers, a provider may have recommended a hyaluronic acid filler like Juvederm®. A provider experienced with this family of fillers can choose the best formula to meet your needs and give you the best possible results.
