My roommate Alexis Fecteau and I have just spent one of the best holiday seasons to date, enjoying our time off work by indulging in a number of marathon movie sessions. We have watched the Planet of the Apes trilogy, we spent a day watching both the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogies, and we managed to squeeze in Star Wars and the Harry Potter movies too. No matter how much you love movies, taking on a monster watching session requires careful planning in order for everything to go well. No matter which box set you have decided on, here is what you need to do in order to prepare properly for a day like this.
No Plans
The last thing that you need is to be in the middle of a blockbuster movie marathon only to realize that you have something to do. These are days when you have to be fully committed to the session, and that means completely clearing your schedule. Let family and friends know that you aren’t available and be sure that you have nothing outstanding in order to make the most of this.
Snacks
There will be no time for cooking or shopping when you are in the grips of a movie marathon which is why you have to plan in advance. In terms of getting lunch and dinner you can order this online and have it delivered to your door, which covers the main meals. You will however need some snacks to keep you going and you should head to the store the day before in order to make sure that you are fully armed and ready for the day ahead. Switch up your snacks between healthy and unhealthy, because if you just eat chips and dip all day you are going to start feeling pretty tired, which is something you simply have to avoid. Load up the fridge with snacks which require zero preparation, so that they are on hand when you need them most.
Drinks
In terms of what to drink during the session my advice would be stick to water or perhaps some fruit juice. If you drink coffee then you are going to feel very energetic and then crash, if you drink alcohol then it is only advisable to do so towards the end of the final movie as you may very well get tired pretty quickly. The key is to keep yourself hydrated and alert, which is why water is the best option for such a long term commitment. You could have an energy drink ahead of the final movie, but beware the crash after that burst of energy.
Make sure that you have peace and quiet, prepare well to ensure that you have enough food to keep you going during this marathon session and do everything that you can to ensure that spending a day doing nothing more than watching movies, goes completely uninterrupted.
